We’re proud to announce that the April 2013 issue of Rowing & Regatta, published by Legacy Sport Media on behalf of British Rowing, is out now! R&R #69 is our 69th issue of the magazine, which is now distributed to 30,000+ British Rowing members.
Traditionally marking the start to the summer river rowing season, 2013’s extended winter put paid to two major events – easterly winds on the Tideway forced the cancellation of both the 2013 Head of the River Race and the Vesta Veterans’ Head. Fortunately the Women’s Head and Junior Head both took place: but our event coverage certainly didn’t end there!
The annual Oxford vs Cambridge Boat Race was bigger than ever this year – but as usual, R&R’s coverage went deeper than that: not just the Isis vs Goldie Reserve Race, but also the women and lightweights at the Henley Boat Races (this year, on the Olympic course at Eton Dorney!), and the Vets’ Boat Race, contested the day before the main event along part of the same route and the only Cambridge victory this year.
Meanwhile, following the most successful Olympic campaign ever, the GB Rowing Team were back in action too. Sydney, Australia, hosted the first World Cup of the season – and in some of the first glimpses of potential Rio 2016 combinations, the Brits returned with seven medals including four golds. Fantastic photography, some of the best being from Team GB’s Pete Reed in the run-up to the contest, really helped brighten up an otherwise wintry looking issue!
With the addition of news, letters, coaching, technique, nutrition, history, classifieds, a monthly calendar and more, even this unavoidably report-heavy issue is a well-rounded publication. Check it out on iTunes for iPhone and iPad, also available on Android for mobiles and tablets, or online via your browser as Rowing & Regatta Digital.
