British Finn Association – Pump Magazine

The British Finn Association asked LSM to create a higher quality magazine to showcase the thoroughbred men’s Olympic Heavyweight dinghy class in the run-up to the London 2012 Games.

The existing magazine, Pump, was put together by enthusiastic amateur class members, lacked quality images and an engaging design and was not the best promotional tool to highlight the class.

Legacy Sport Media was approached as a result of their sailing journalism specialism and ability to create informative and engaging magazines. The whole publication was placed in the hands of our team, to cover editing, commissioning, design, production, advertising sales and even providing the necessary funding from a sponsor. LSM secured exclusive interviews with the top British sailors – Olympic gold medallist Sir Ben Ainslie and Gold Cup winner Ed Wright, to bolster the content and give the title an inspirational appeal to potential new class members.

With a relatively low print run, we advised on a digital printing solution to keep costs down and still create a high quality print product. A digital edition was also created for the class to provide free to potential members via their website:

We are pleased to say that, on publication of this edition, a new thread was spontaneously started on the BFA website forum congratulating us on both the content and design of the new edition of Pump –

Legacy Sport Media was then pleased to be asked to create a new, updated website for the British Finn Association, and were retained to manage and edit the content of the site, along with a re-branding exercise and the creation of a new logo.
